About

With over 13 years of clinical experience as a Physiotherapist (Otago graduate), Lisa has developed her passion for Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy through further studies from the University of Melbourne in pelvic floor dysfunction and continence.

Lisa is passionate about helping women and men maintain and persue health, fitness, and continence throughout all stages of their lives.  Using evidence-based treatment, Lisa empowers people to regain control of their lives by providing them with the necessary tools (knowledge, control, flexibility, strength) to move and exercise optimally. In this way, her clients achieve optimal loading, as well as efficient, pain-free movement, while remaining continent.

Lisa’s ambition is to assist women to recover from pregnancy and return to fitness. A comprehensive assessment is the first step. Next is a program of innovative rehabilitation and education. Finally, Lisa designs return to fitness programs that promote pelvic floor and diaphragm integration.

Through a complete analysis of her clients’ experiences, Lisa measures how proper function is affected.

Lisa has completed post-graduate training in orthopaedic manual physiotherapy, western acupuncture, soft tissue release, pelvic floor rehabilitation, kinesio taping and sports medicine.  Lisa uses acupuncture and dry needling during the treatment of pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunctions if deemed appropriate.

Lisa has amassed vast clinical experience from working in Australia, UK, and from volunteering in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.  She has had the opportunity to treat patients across many specialities including spinal and neurological rehabilitation, oncology, gynaecology, acute and chronic musculoskeletal, respiratory, vascular, urology, cardiothoracic, orthopaedic, paediatrics and care of the elderly.  Lisa has had an active role in the teaching and mentoring of students in Bristol UK, and from Otago University.  Lisa established and runs the Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy service at Dunstan Hospital where she has worked since returning home from the UK in 2013.

After her own traumatic birthing experience, Lisa develop a slight obsession with all things pelvic floor, after realising the delights and pains of recovering from childbirth and pregnancy.

Lisa and her partner Pedro have a lively young son, and together they enjoy living in Wanaka and all of the outdoor adventures that the area has to offer.  Pedro and Lisa’s son is bilingual speaking Portuguese and English.  Lisa enjoys rock climbing, ski touring, mountain biking, and pre-baby she used to speedfly and skydive.  Post-baby, her goal is to return to paragliding and advance some cross country flying skills.  Lisa has travelled extensively throughout the world and wishes to continue exploring the unique communities and cultures vastly different from her own.

Lisa has always been fascinated by movement and is passionate about helping women and men maintain and pursue health, fitness, and continence throughout all stages of their lives.  Lisa has more than 15 years’ experience treating people with a wide range of conditions, both locally and internationally.  She completed her post graduate studies in pelvic floor rehabilitation and continence and continues on her mission to improve care and remove stigmas.  Lisa achieves great satisfaction from making a life-changing difference in people’s lives by optimising their pelvic health and seeing clients reaching their personal and fitness goals.

Using evidence-based treatment, Lisa empowers people to regain control of their lives by providing them with the necessary tools (knowledge, control, flexibility, strength) to move and exercise optimally. In this way, her patients have the freedom of an active lifestyle, as well as efficient, pain-free movement, all while remaining continent.  She is committed to staying at the forefront of Physiotherapy evidence and practice.  Collaborating with leaders in the field locally and internationally ensures she can provide revolutionary and pioneering treatment for clients.

After her own birthing experience, Lisa experienced both the delights and pains of pregnancy and childbirth. Determined to recover and enjoy her new baby as well as return to an active lifestyle, Lisa went on a journey that led to a slight obsession with all things pelvic floor. She is always striving to learn more and loves to share her wealth of knowledge to empower and educate patients. Her ambition is to assist women to recover from pregnancy, and both women and men to return to fitness and lead a normal lifestyle. Her compassion and drive will make you feel both at ease and motivated during your recovery.

With a comprehensive assessment and complete analysis of each patient’s experiences, Lisa measures how your normal function is affected. Throughout the consultation you will be encouraged to voice all your concerns in a safe environment. She then implements an individual program of innovative rehabilitation and education. Finally, Lisa designs return to fitness programs that promote pelvic floor and diaphragm integration.

Lisa has amassed vast clinical experience from working in Australia, UK, and most recently New Zealand, at Dunstan Hospital. She is well-recognised for her care in pelvic floor physiotherapy with referrals from many health care providers including GPs, specialists such as Obstetricians, Gynaecologists and Urologists, midwives, physiotherapists and other practitioners. She has had the opportunity to treat patients across many specialities including spinal and neurological rehabilitation, oncology, gynaecology, acute and chronic musculoskeletal, respiratory, vascular, urology, cardiothoracic, orthopaedic, paediatrics and care of the elderly. Lisa has had an active role in the teaching and mentoring of Physiotherapy students. Lisa established and runs the Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy service at Dunstan Hospital where she has worked since returning home from the UK in 2013.
